Valuing people, working smart and working hard has earned Michael and the Opton & Blacklaw firm a list of loyal clients.

"We really value our clients", he says, "and their loyalty seems to mean that they value us. Many clients have become life-long friends. From our first meeting, clients sense they can trust us".

Gaining trust is important, but after that, it is results that count. Michael has gained a reputation for his tenacity in pursuit of his client's needs.

Client Relationships

Michael listens to his clients and gives them useful information that helps them understand their situations and the possible resolutions of the problems they face. He wants them to leave his office feeling that they understand more about their situation than when they came in. He wants them to feel they will be attended to by him and his staff. If he had not been able to do that his practice would not be successful.

Michael believes that each client needs and wants careful analysis of their problems and proposed solutions that are cost effective and right for the client. Michael believes that in many cases how the client conducts themselves in a dispute for example, will have a substantial effect on the outcome. He gives advice with that principle in mind.

Michael practices law in such a way that his clients continue to use his services as they have for over 40 years. Long term relationships are important to Opton & Black. They conduct themselves with that in mind.

If you want a lawyer who will be successful for you, pick one who has been successful for others and for himself in establishing long term relationships with his clients.

A lawyer whose clients keep coming back is doing something seriously right.

Michael was born is Portland and graduated from Grant High School in 1961. In 1966, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy with honors from Amherst College and soon after entered New York University School of Law where NYU awarded him the Juris Doctor degree in 1970.
